David Chen

David Chen is a Conservation Specialist at Volunteer World Guide, bringing scientific expertise to our coverage of wildlife and environmental volunteer programs.

With a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from Stanford University, David has conducted fieldwork on coral reef ecosystems across the Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Caribbean. His research on sustainable tourism's impact on marine environments has been published in leading scientific journals.

David's transition from academic research to volunteer program advocacy came after observing how poorly designed volunteer programs can harm the ecosystems they claim to protect. He now works to educate volunteers about truly impactful conservation opportunities and helps vet programs for scientific rigor.
